|Hotels in Mysore|
The city is well-known author R. K Narayan's hometown and the erstwhile capital of the Wodeyar kingdom. Regarded by many as one of the finest cities in southern India, Mysore is crafts-crazy with a number of artisans carving sandalwood. The city has friendly people, tree-lined wide avenues, art galleries and a palace. Among the many sights in the city are the Nandi Bull, carved from solid stone, and a 2,000-year-old Hindu temple. Additionally, there are several interesting sights within about a 150-odd km of the city in addition to the capital of Karnataka, Bangalore. They are Sravanabelagola with its impressive statue of Jain saint Gomateshwara, cut from one rock; and Belur with its 11th-century Chenna Kesava temple, Halebid temple carvings and the spectacular Jog Falls.
